Bolsonaro is hospitalized in SP after feeling abdominal pain and suffering from erysipelas

Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) arrived at the Vila Nova Star hospital, in the south zone of São Paulo, in the early evening of this Monday, 6. Admitted in Manaus (AM) because of a skin infection, he was transferred to the capital of São Paulo after feeling abdominal pain. Bolsonaro left Manaus around 2pm and arrived in the capital of São Paulo shortly after 7pm. The ambulance carrying Bolsonaro arrived at the hospital at around 7:45 pm, escorted by two cars. He left the vehicle in a wheelchair.

A medical report signed by the general director of Vila Nova Star, Dr. Daniel Favarão Del Negro, and by the unit’s clinical director, Dr. Paulo Marcelo Gehm Hoff, states that the former president was diagnosed with erysipelas on his left leg and abdominal pain. “He is currently stable and has no fever. He is undergoing laboratory and imaging tests, and is already receiving intravenous antibiotic therapy”, says the bulletin, pointing out that Bolsonaro is under the care of surgeon Antônio Luiz Macedo and cardiologist Leandro Echenique.

Initially, it was planned that the former president would be transferred to Brasília. But discomfort in the abdominal region caused Bolsonaro to change his destiny. The change occurred so that the former president can be attended to by Antônio Macedo, who has been with him since the stab wound he suffered during the 2018 election campaign.

Last September, Macedo also treated the former head of state after abdominal pain. At the time, Bolsonaro underwent two surgeries, one to correct a hiatal hernia, which caused reflux, and another to treat a deviated septum.

Last Friday, the 3rd, Bolsonaro went to the Amazonian capital to participate in party events. He arrived in the city in discomfort, being diagnosed with erysipelas, a bacterial infection that affects the skin, the next morning in a hospital. In 2022, the former president contracted the same infection after losing the elections.

Upon leaving the hospital, Bolsonaro spoke briefly to journalists. “A case of erysipelas appeared. I didn’t sleep all last night. My wife and the doctors didn’t want me to come, but I had an appointment here (in Manaus). I’m a bit tough on the fall. So, I came and was well treated by the doctors “, he said.

Less than 24 hours later, on Sunday, the 5th, he was hospitalized again in Manaus. Before returning to the hospital, Bolsonaro spoke to supporters, during a PL Mulher state event, with his arm bandaged, and stated that he had been admitted to Hospital Santa Júlia de Manaus, with erysipelas and dehydration.

In November 2022, when he was still President of the Republic, Bolsonaro canceled agendas due to the same problem. At the time, the then vice-president, Hamilton Mourão, said that the illness prevented the then-president from wearing pants.
