Out of stock for two years, basic antibiotics return to the public network – Capital

Amoxicillin and azithromycin are basic antibiotics, which were “missing” from Campo Grande health units for two years. As confirmed by Sesau (Municipal Health Department) this Monday (6), the stock of both medicines is now regularized.

As an explanation for why they were out of stock for so long, the department cites problems with bidding and late delivery.

“Such medicines were in short supply for various reasons, including the difficulty in carrying out a bidding process, which, on several occasions, resulted in a desert, and the delay in the delivery of shipments by the companies that won the auction”, he explains.

In the most recent list on the stock of medicines that you are responsible for purchasing, from March this year, Sesau points out that three presentations of amoxicillin were out of stock and there was only the option of powder for mixing in water.

As for azithromycin, the situation was better. There were tablets and powder suspension for oral use. The antibiotic powder for injectable suspension was missing.

“It is worth emphasizing that the stock of both medicines is currently regularized, and that, according to the latest survey, the Municipal Medicines Network (Remume) has 86% of medicines in stock, which results in an investment that almost R$ 8.5 million committed to medicines in 2024 alone”, concludes the folder, in a note.

Old problem – Since 2015, a Public Civil Action proposed by the MPE (State Public Ministry) has been pending in court to try to resolve the problem of the constant lack of medicines in the public network of Campo Grande.

The current municipal secretary of Health, Rosana Leite, was summoned to speak about the lack of medicines at the City Council on April 15th. On that date, she promised to resolve the problem within 40 days.

“The majority are antihypertensives and antibiotics. Today a shipment of diosmin arrived (for circulation). I carried out the diagnosis and all the bureaucratic procedures. We have five tenders in the final stage, for the purchase of 90 different medicines. Four open minutes of price registration for the purchase of 69 medicines and the signature phase for 24 medicines purchased through auction”, he told councilors.
