Luiz Alves City Hall, in Vale do Itajaí, issued a statement on Friday night (3), stating that confirmed the first case of Oropouche Fever, which is caused by sea bream. Confirmation was made by the Central Public Health Laboratory (LACEN). No information about the patient was released.

Since the confirmation of the first case in the State, in Botuverá, the municipality of Luiz Alves and health teams have mobilized to define protocols for care and investigation of the disease and, now, with confirmation in the municipality, new measures must be taken in the coming days.
On March 27, the city had already declared an emergency due to the spread of mosquitoes.which left the rural area, where it is easily found, and expanded to the urban area.

It is worth remembering that in addition to Luiz Alves, the municipality of Botuverá confirmed three cases of Oropouche Fever on April 26. These were the first cases of the disease registered in the State of Santa Catarina.
