William Paterson University, in New Jersey (USA), released the results of a study that shows which are the 41 healthiest foods in the world. Watercress, chard and spinach, vegetables familiar to Brazilians, appear at the top of the list. Fruits are also in the relationship.

To reach the result, the study focused on the concentration of 17 essential nutrients, including vitamins A and B12, in relation to the amount of calories in each food. The methodology aims to identify which foods offer a greater amount of nutrients in relation to their caloric intake.

Top 5 fruits

Based on this methodology, lemon is the top 1 fruit. This is because, despite being sour, it has 53 mg of vitamin C per 100 grams and contains calcium, magnesium, potassium, as well as fiber.

The second position is strawberries, which have 62mg per 100 grams of vitamin C. Strawberries are rich in magnesium, folic acid, calcium and iron, which help with the normal formation of red blood cells and also in the transport of oxygen.

Orange, one of the most popular fruits in Brazil, came in third place, largely due to the rich presence of vitamin C. Orange is also rich in magnesium and potassium.

The fourth position belongs to the red and pink variety of grapefruit, a source of vitamin A.

The top five are blackberries, a source of iron, manganese, calcium, potassium and magnesium.
