Released this Friday, Anitta’s latest album, Funk Generation, begins to receive attention from international critics. The project, which delves into the roots of Rio funk, has so far received positive reviews from the two vehicles that were analyzed, the one from billboard and the Associated Press.

Billboard highlights that Funk Generation maintains a fast pace from the first track, Lose Ya Breath, where Anitta proposes exactly that: taking the listener’s breath away. The album “rarely lets the pace drop, and Anitta never stops showing the ferocity that fuels many of these songs that are particularly energetic, lively and that ‘heat up’ the Brazilian funk dance floor”, says the review.

Additionally, the tracks FunkRave It is Play for the Moonalready known to the public, fit perfectly into the song list, they say, but they are the “quick explosions of less than two minutes like Savage Funk It is Grip that can steal the whole show.”

Conversely, Maria Sherman of the Associated Press offers perspective on Anitta’s approach to funk as a celebration of cultural resistance and innovation.

“Anitta returned with a new album, ready for the club and the bedroom, Funk Generation. It’s an infectious collection of dance songs that celebrates a genre that was once marginalized but also manages to experiment beyond its limits,” writes Sherman. The critic highlights that Anitta does not follow mainstream pop trends, choosing to amplify funk through her unique pop sensibility.

Sherman further describes the album as a celebration of Rio funk, “a combination of Brazilian rhythms, African and electronic music, and rap, often heard in the favelas around Rio.”

Both critiques recognize Funk Generation as a milestone in the Brazilian’s career, celebrating not only her roots, but also her role as one of the most influential voices in global pop music. Sherman concludes his analysis by stating that Anitta is not just a voice within the party, “she wants to be the party itself”.
