At Santa Casa, there was an increase of 44.87% in attendances comparing the month of April 2024 with 2023, and, compared to April 2019, before the pandemic, the increase was 62.98%. In the Emergency Department of the Santo Antônio neighborhood, an increase was also observed, but with a smaller impact, being 35.11% in the comparison before Covid-19 and 24.54% between 2023 and 2024

Faced with the increase in cases of dengue fever, respiratory diseases and the general demand for healthcare throughout the State of São Paulo and Brazil, Louveira City Hall and Santa Casa continue working to reduce overloads in Emergency Care and Emergency Rooms. At Santa Casa, there was an increase of 44.87% in attendances comparing the month of April 2024 with 2023, and, compared to April 2019, before the pandemic, the increase was 62.98%. In the Emergency Department of the Santo Antônio neighborhood, an increase was also observed, but with a smaller impact, being 35.11% in the comparison before Covid-19 and 24.54% between 2023 and 2024. Furthermore, also affecting the number of services in recent years, Louveira faced 2 years of the Covid-19 pandemic between 2020 and 2022 with a series of investments to reduce the impacts, such as, for example, the creation of the Oxygen Plant, acquisition of a High Flow Catheter, increase in beds, Field Hospital, delivery of Basic Food Baskets (maintained even after the Pandemic), Testing Center, disinfection in the streets and public places, tests on children in Schools, “Vaccine Against Hunger” Campaign, collective efforts for mass vaccination, among other actions that saved thousands of lives.

According to the Department of Health and Santa Casa, the increase in cases is mainly due to the dengue epidemic occurring throughout Brazil, with patients presenting clinical complications, which make them require care that falls outside the scope of Primary Care. of Health. Furthermore, an anticipation of cases of respiratory diseases was observed with the seasonal period of dengue. Thus, diseases overlap, causing overcrowding of the Santa Casa Emergency Room and Santo Antônio Emergency Room services. Another important point is that due to the current scenario, an increase in demand from residents of other cities in the region was also observed.

There was also an increase in the number of accidents on the highways that circulate the municipality, as well as cardiovascular emergencies. This directly impacts door service, as the person on duty travels to meet this demand, classified as High Priority in the standard Risk assessment.

The significant increase in care and also the clinical complications presented by users, generated overcrowding in Emergency Room care, in the use of hospitalization beds and in observation at Hospital da Santa Casa. For this reason, the Department of Health, together with the responsible team at Santa Casa, decided to temporarily interrupt elective surgeries to guarantee hospital beds for users who require more specific care in a hospital environment.

Advances

In a commitment to speed up care for patients with mild symptoms of dengue fever and respiratory diseases, the City of Louveira carries out an Operational Plan at the Center’s Basic Health Unit (UBS Lucilene Mosca Melin). With individualized care, the nurse evaluates patients and refers them for a Telemedicine consultation. The Operational Plan is open daily from 8am to 5pm. The Plan focuses on users over 10 years of age who have a Citizen Card.

After care, all necessary procedures requested by the doctor are carried out at the UBS. This Operational plan also meets the demand sent by the other Basic Health Units, thus relieving the burden of Emergency Room and Emergency Care services, making it faster for patients.

Furthermore, in recent weeks, the City Hall has carried out a series of different joint efforts that have brought relevant results in serving the population, such as 332 consultations last Saturday (27th), 250 consultations and 173 doses of vaccines administered on April 13th. , more than 300 consultations, exams and procedures on April 6th, 50 women attended in the mammography campaign on March 18th, 530 consultations on March 16th at the Saúde de Portas Abertas event, 15 cataract surgeries also at the same day, 22 patients attended screening for endoscopy on March 9, among a series of other actions to raise awareness of well-being, self-care and the fight against dengue. Recently, an emergency doctor was hired to work at the Santa Casa Emergency Room.

In one of the main investments, the City Hall is advancing the construction of the Santo Antônio de Louveira Hospital at an accelerated pace. The hospital will have a strategic role within the Louveira Hospital Network and is essential for the population in cases of low and medium complexity, mainly for the more than 35 thousand residents of Santo Antônio and neighborhoods in the region. With a privileged location, the unit is located in the location that was the Emergency Room (PA) and CEMO (Center for Medical and Dental Specialties). For the comfort of patients, parents and guardians of children, the unit will have two entrances, one for children and another for general use.
