Votuporanga again recorded, this weekend, one death from Covid-19. The virus reappears, claiming victims amidst small flu outbreaks throughout the region and a Dengue epidemic in the municipality, which raises the state of alert in the health system due to the risk of overload.

The victim was Paulo Roberto de Souza, aged 63, who passed away on Sunday (5). A longtime resident of the southern region of Votuporanga, Robertinho da Estação, as he was known, was admitted to Santa Casa, but could not resist the complications caused by the disease.

Paulo Roberto, however, is not the first victim of Covid this year. Five other people also died before him: two in January (both aged 72), two in February (one aged 71 and another aged 84, and one in March (aged 84). 1,999 cases of the disease were also recorded in the first four months of this year, an average of 499 positive records per month.

Unlike the pandemic period, however, epidemiological bulletins about the coronavirus are no longer released daily, but only once a month. Figures from the last 30 days reveal that 18 people contracted the virus in Votuporanga and there are another 53 suspected cases, one of which is even hospitalized.

Paulo Roberto leaves behind his wife Adriana, his children Patrícia, Paulinho, Tatiane and Kelly, as well as 11 grandchildren and many friends. Due to Covid-19, there was no wake. His body was buried in the Jardim das Flores Cemetery, around 10 am on Sunday (5).
