Centenary: Sport promotes meeting of idols from the history of ASA de Arapiraca

Arapiraca, Wednesday, April 24, 2024. The meeting of two idols in the history of ASA de Arapiraca. Freitas Nascimento, 69-year-old Freitas, idol of the 1980s, and Cícero Bezerra, 35-year-old Didira, current idol.

The meeting of the two biggest names in Alvinegro Arapiraquense, center forward Freitas and midfielder Didira, was created by the Secretary of Sports of Arapiraca, Josenildo Souza, in reference to the Centenary of the Capital of Agreste.

The meeting took place at the residence of ASA’s top scorer, in the Eldorado neighborhood. Freitas scored exactly 158 goals with the Gigante shirt. Didira has so far reached 155 goals for Fantasma de Alagoas. It’s almost a technical draw on goal difference.

Freitas Nascimento is from Bahia, from Ipirá (BA), but raised a family in Arapiraca and lives in the Capital of Fumo, in Agreste de Alagoas. He underwent three surgeries and had his right leg amputated due to diabetes.

“I am fortunate to have a family that loves me very much”, said Natazilio Freitas Nascimento.

Since Freitas’ home at the ASA concentration, in the center of Arapiraca, when he arrived in Arapiraca in 1978 at the age of 15, brought by the president of the Club Paulo Ténorio.

The informal conversation, full of feelings, also highlighted Freitas’ role as a football coach for 28 years. He received two ASA shirts. One white with the autograph of the current players and another black with his name.

“Freitas is an idol that has to be respected by the population of Arapiraca and by all ASA fans, without question”, highlighted Josenildo Souza.
