At Madonna concert, PM takes 33 people to police stations and arrests a man using facial recognition in Copacabana

In a partial assessment of the special policing scheme for the Madonna show, released at 1:40 am, the Military Police confirm that 33 people were taken to Copacabana police stations by 11 pm. A man was arrested using the facial recognition system this evening too.

Furthermore, the agents managed to seize more than 160 sharp objects at the blocking and search points set up at all access points to the beach. Among the objects were scissors and knives.

According to the PM, a man was arrested after being identified by the facial recognition system set up on several streets in the neighborhood, with more than 60 security cameras throughout Copacabana. The corporation also set up inspection points on the main streets.

In total, around 3,200 military police officers were employed, distributed on a basis at strategic points, in addition to occupying 65 observation towers and operating at 18 intercept points with searches, including metal detectors. In these locations, the corporation also installed cameras with the Video Monitoring and Facial Recognition System, with the aim of intercepting possible fugitives from justice.

Drones were also used to support monitoring and two for facial recognition. A mobile unit of the PM’s Integrated Command and Control Center was also installed in Praça do Lido.
