Chopin case: Justice maintains guardianship of socialite with her partner

-

The plot about the life of socialite Regina Lemos Gonçalves gained new chapters this Thursday (25/4). According to the newspaper O Globo, judge Valéria Dacheux, from the 6th of Private Law, maintained provisional guardianship of the 88-year-old woman with her partner, José Marcos Chaves Ribeiro, accused by the family of keeping the elderly woman in private prison for months in the Chopin Building , in Rio de Janeiro.

The judge’s decision revokes the protective measure requiring José Marcos to stay 250 meters away from Regina. In the first instance, however, substitute judge Claudia Leonor Jourdan Gomes Bobsin, from the 1st Court of Children, Youth and the Elderly, would have ordered the return of the socialite to the Chopan building, in Copacabana, with the curator, in this case her nephew.

As the decision of the second instance prevails, the socialite must return to the apartment where she lives with her partner.

According to the judge’s decision, Regina must be accompanied by a caregiver, chosen with the approval of her relatives. The objective is for the professional to help ensure transparency regarding the health and well-being of the 88-year-old woman.

The Claudia Meireles Column contacted Álvaro O’hara, Regina’s maternal nephew. A 41-year-old fashion designer, Álvaro said that one of José Marcos’ lawyers is Paulo Lins e Silva, who was responsible for taking care of the socialite’s inventory in 1994, when she became the widow of Nestor Gonçalves. At the time, the assets were valued at US$500 million, the equivalent of more than R$2.5 billion at current prices.

“This lawyer was my aunt’s lawyer. He was the one who made the inventory when Nestor died in 1994. He is defending him. He is advocating for Marcos,” Álvaro said in an interview. The stylist described Paulo Lins e Silva as “a very renowned medallion in the legal world”.

Álvaro and his family wonder why lawyer Paulo Lins e Silva first advocated for Regina at the time the assets were assessed and, currently, the law firm starts to represent José Marcos, accused of keeping the 88-year-old woman in private prison. .

The Claudia Meireles Column contacted the firm Paulo Lins e Silva — Advogados e Consultores de Família, located in Rio de Janeiro. Until the closing of this report, there was no response.
