A new rumor about the possible and long-awaited return of Linkin park has emerged strongly in recent days. The Nu Metal band has been on hiatus since the death of the legendary and late singer Chester Bennington in 2017, but that gap may soon end.

The last meeting of the remaining members took place on October 27th at the event Linkin Park and Friendswith guest musicians paying tribute to the talented vocalist.

However, new expectations were created after a recent interview with Jay Gordonsinger of Orgy who has worked with Linkin Park on a few occasions.

When participating in the program “Wired in the Empire”, on KCAL 96.7 radio, Gordon, who led the group of Mike Shinoda for his first tour and remixed “Pts.OF.Athrty” for the remix album Reanimation (2002), shared some of the speculation he learned about Linkin Park’s plans (via Loudwire):

They’re really, really cool guys and obviously a great band. They have been around for a long time and will continue to do so. It’s going to be difficult without Chester, but we’ll see. I heard they have a girl on vocals now. That’s what I heard.

After the program’s host reflected on whether the band would actually return to activities one day, Jay Gordon went back on his comment and asked not to be named as the owner of the rumor:

Don’t cite me as the source of this. I don’t know who the vocalist will be, but I heard she will be a woman. They can try to continue like this, that should be interesting.

After some time, as the LoudwireGordon took to social media to complain about an alleged “lack of context” in his statement and went back on the information given:

Regarding this Linkin Park singer thing. I don’t know anything about any of this. People really like to take my lines out of context. I love those guys and wish them the best. Wow, I was like, ‘What the fuck?’ I didn’t say anything about knowing anything and I never brought it up. I love Chester and there will never be another like him, ever. It’s weird that that guy said something to me about it, and not the other way around. Let’s get real, man. It wasn’t cool!

What a mess! Only time will tell if Jay invented or missed this news…

Linkin Park after the death of Chester Bennington

Since the group went on hiatus, Mike Shinoda, who is co-founder of Linkin Park, has in recent years dismissed any expectations fans had of seeing the group reunite without Chester’s presence.

The musician pursued a solo career, while Linkin Park remained present to the public, celebrating their previous works, such as the re-releases of their first albums, Hybrid Theory (2000) and Meteora (2003), made available respectively in 2020 and 2023, when they completed 20 years of launch.

Earlier this year, the band announced the singles compilation Papercuts, which involves the group’s entire career and is scheduled to be released on April 12th. It also has the new “Friendly Fire”, recently released and which you can listen to below.

Additionally, Linkin Park announced a new pressing of the vinyl record Lost Demoswhich was made available last year, and features a compilation of 14 tracks that were recorded before and during the sessions for Linkin Park’s emblematic second studio album, Meteora. Find out more details here.
