At just 19 years old and still attending college, Brazilian Livia Voigt is the youngest billionaire in the world, according to a list published by the magazine Forbes this Tuesday (2/4). With a fortune worth around US$1.1 billion (R$5.5 billion), she has a minority stake of 3.1% in the electrical equipment producer WEG, which was founded by her grandfather Werner Ricardo Voigt, who died in 2016.
Livia’s fortune is the same as that of her older sister, Dora Voigt de Assis, 26 years old, who are two of the seven new personalities mentioned in the magazine’s list of 25 youngest billionaires Forbes. The list includes heirs and self-educated people up to 33 years old.
Together, the 25 billionaires accumulated US$110 billion (R$555.5 billion) by the cut-off date for the 2024 list, which was March 8. Furthermore, for the first time since 2009, all those listed who are under 30 years old are heirs to large companies.
Livia ended up ahead of the Italian Clemente Del Vecchio, heir to Luxottica, the largest glasses manufacturer in the world and owner of the Ray-Ban brand, by just two months of difference, as they are both 19 years old; Clemente was the youngest on the list of Forbes 2023.
Only one person who is not an heir is among the 25 youngest billionaires. 33-year-old Shunsaku Sagami from Japan, a mergers and acquisitions negotiator at M&A Research Institute Holding. His shares have risen more than 800% since being publicly floated in June 2022.
