Player Daniel Alves was released on provisional freedom on Monday (20) after 14 months in preventive detention. The bail of 1 million euros (R$5.4 million) was paid by a group of friends, according to the Catalan newspaper “La Vanguardia”.

Among the friends who helped pay the bail is Dutch striker Memphis Depay, from Atlético de Madrid. The two played together in Daniel Alves’ second spell at Barcelona, in the 2021/22 season.

With assets valued at around 60 million euros (R$324 million), Daniel Alves was unable to use his own resources to pay bail. The player is prevented from moving part of the money due to a legal dispute in Brazil with his ex-wife, Dinorah Santana. Furthermore, his assets in Spain have been blocked since the rape accusation.

Daniel Alves’ defense obtained the amount through non-bank loans. According to “La Vanguardia”, the player’s friends provided the money, with lawyer Inés Guardiola using as collateral the 6.8 million euros (R$36.6 million) that the athlete has to receive from the Spanish tax authorities.
