According to the president of the Central Bank, a “marriage of liberals and conservatives” was made in the Bolsonaro government

The president of the BC (Central Bank), Roberto Campos Neto, defined this Tuesday (April 30, 2024) to be a “liberal liberal” –which according to him is a “extinct animal”. The statement was given in an interview to CNN Brasil.

“I consider myself a liberal liberal. We have a conservative liberal and on the other side, in terms of customs, a liberal more to the left. I would be something that no longer exists, which is a liberal liberal. In this sense, we say that it is an extinct animal“, he declared.

Campos Neto spoke about his relationship with former president Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) economic team and said that a “marriage of liberals and conservatives”.

“Ultimately what was done was a marriage. The minister [da Economia] Paulo Guedes said this, that it was a marriage of liberals and conservatives. I would even say that I am a little more conservative, in terms of customs, than liberal, but not conservative in the way we saw the government [anterior]he said.

In relation to the government of Bolsonaro and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), the economist also said that the country needs to find a middle way, with public policies to address certain problems, but also to value entrepreneurs and “those who take risks”.

Campos Neto once again said that he doesn’t know what his future will be after BC. According to Campos Neto, he intends to rest when he leaves office at the end of this year. “I want to make a smooth transition”he said.
