Inflation preview loses strength and rises 0.21% in April

For food, the increase of 0.61% represents a loss of strength in relation to the variation of 0.91% in March. The increase in prices was driven by a 0.74% jump in food at home and 0.25% in meals away from home. Both results are lower than the increases recorded last month.

In the group’s list of sub-items, tomatoes appear as the main villain, with an increase of 17.87% in the month. Garlic (11.60%), onion (11.31%), fruit (2.59%) and long-life milk (1.96%) also showed significant variations. In the opposite direction, potatoes (-8.72%) and meat (-1.43%) became cheaper.

The 4.5% increase in the price of medicines weighed on the rise in the health and personal care group. The adjustment, valid since March 31st, represents the biggest contribution of the month to the 0.78% increase in the core. The impact of the increase in health plans (+0.77%), which continues with the monthly installments of adjustments for the cycle from 2023 to 2024, also maintained its impact.

The regional analysis shows that residents of Recife (PE) were the most affected by April’s inflation. The 0.57% increase in prices in the capital is followed by variations in Belém (0.33%), Salvador (0.31%), Rio de Janeiro (0.31%), Brasília (0.23%), Curitiba (0.23%), São Paulo (0.22%), Belo Horizonte (0.14%) and Goiânia (0.8%). On the other hand, the IPCA-15 fluctuated negatively in Porto Alegre and Fortaleza.
