Petrobras will hire vessels – Capitalist

Petrobras (PETR3; PETR4) gave the green light to the beginning of the process of contracting vessels to support exploration and production logistics, both for the short term (2025 and 2026) and for the long term.

In the first stage of bidding, aimed at the construction of new vessels, it is planned to contract 12 units of the PSV type (Platform Supply Vessel). In addition, the contracting list includes coastal shipping vessels, oil production and storage platforms (FPSOs), vessels for underwater activities and well drilling, as well as the decommissioning of platforms. The processes will be announced in the coming days, according to information released by the company.

The Swiss company Trafigura admitted guilt on charges related to a corruption scheme involving Brazilian authorities and Petrobras (PETR3, PETR4), which lasted for more than a decade, according to a statement from the US Department of Justice (DoJ) released today.

The indictment states that Trafigura bribed members of the Brazilian government between 2003 and 2014 to secure business with Petrobras. To close the investigations conducted by the American department, the company agreed to pay an amount of US$126 million. Nicole Argentieri, head of the DoJ’s Criminal Division, highlighted that the guilty plea reinforces the message that companies that engage in bribery and undermine the rule of law will face serious consequences, emphasizing the department’s ongoing commitment to combating corrupt practices and holding offenders accountable.

According to the indictment, Trafigura profited approximately US$61 million from the scheme, which included bribe payments of up to US$0.20 per barrel of petroleum product traded between Trafigura and Petrobras, starting in 2009. The payments were allegedly disguised through fictitious companies, using intermediaries with offshore bank accounts to transfer money to Brazilian authorities.
