King Charles updates funeral plans: see what ceremony should be like

-

King Charles III announced at the beginning of the year that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and, this Friday (26), British portals stated that the monarch’s health had worsened. Therefore, the script for Charles’ funeral is changed frequently.

A source revealed to The Daily Beast that the script for the ceremony has more than 100 and that it began to be prepared in September 2022, as soon as Queen Elizabeth II died. The monarch died on September 8th and the funeral and wake took place just 11 days later, on the 19th of the same month.

If King Charles II chooses for his funeral and burial to be carried out in the same format and place as the queens, Elizabeth II and Elizabeth III, the farewell ceremonies will take place in the Abbey and Westminster Hall. However, before the coffin is taken to its final location, it undergoes vigils in Scotland, where there are formal ceremonies and celebrations open to the public.

Funeral at Westminster Abbey

A Westminster Abbey is a very important church for the United Kingdom, where British kings are crowned, including King Charles, in 2023. After hundreds of years without monarchs being veiled there, in 2002, Queen Elizabeth II, the king’s grandmother, was buried there and, in 2022, Elizabeth III also chose to be buried in the Abbey.

Operation Menai Bridge

With constant updates, the dossier of details surrounding Charles III’s funeral is titled Operation Menai Bridge, following the tradition of naming funeral plans with bridges. In the case of the monarch, the Menai Bridge is a suspension bridge that connects the island of Anglesey to the Welsh mainland.

“The plans have been reviewed and are constantly being updated,” said the source, who guarantees that all the details have been passed on so that no unforeseen events happen and it is even more organized and safer than the mother’s.

The website also says that military officials confirm the frequent updating of Charles III’s dossier, but emphasize that this is standard procedure and that “it would be absurd to interpret anything else from this”.

“Of course they are looking at every aspect of the Menai Bridge. The Queen’s funeral went like clockwork and set a high standard. It’s not an emotional thing, it’s a job taken very seriously and it’s absolutely understandable that no one plans to be caught off guard,” an official involved in planning royal funerals told the Daily Beast.

“You need a massive security operation because all the most important people on the planet are going to be there. We are talking about an entire apparatus, from anti-missile defenses to protection against an isolated attack. And as any death can happen suddenly, every detail must be meticulously planned,” said a source.
