In a joint statement, the USA, Brazil and 16 other countries call for the release of Hamas hostages | World

The governments of Brazil, the United States, Argentina and 15 other countries signed a joint letter calling for the release of all around 130 hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

In the statement, released this Thursday (25) by the White House, the countries also call for a ceasefire in the territory.

The letter is signed by 18 countries that have citizens among their hostages. The signatories are:

  • Canada;
  • Colombia;
  • Denmark;
  • Bulgaria;
  • Spain;
  • France;
  • Hungary;
  • Poland;
  • Portugal;
  • Romania;
  • Serbia;
  • Thailand;
  • UK.

“We call for the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas in Gaza for more than 200 days. Among them are our citizens,” the letter says. “We emphasize that the agreement currently on the table to release the hostages would bring an immediate and prolonged ceasefire in Gaza, which would facilitate a wave of additional necessary humanitarian assistance to be delivered throughout Gaza, and lead to a credible end to hostilities.”
