The program “Tá na Hora”, on SBT, presented a shocking complaint to viewers of Silvio Santos’ channel on Tuesday afternoon (7). The news report led by journalists Marcão do Povo and Marcia Dantas exclusively revealed that some truck drivers are being fined on highways in Rio Grande do Sul, when they arrived in the state with donations for the victims of the climate catastrophe that is ravaging the region.

In a report, anchor Márcia Dantas – who traveled to Rio Grande do Sul to closely follow the drama experienced by local residents with the unprecedented flood – showed angry drivers after being stopped by agents from the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) on one of the few highways that lead to the cities most affected by the floods in Rio Grande do Sul.

In the footage shown by SBT’s “Tá na Hora”, truck drivers and volunteers who were taking donations to the victims were stopped at an inspection and fined. “My truck is for 55 thousand kg and I was fined [inaudível] that’s the reason. I have a truck with everything to take to the Porto Alegre region and they [me] They fined them for that. This is the Brazil we want”, said the truck driver angrily in an interview with Marcia Dantas.

Civil Defense agents were also approached and notified of inspection by (ANTT). “We were notified because we were overweight”, said a volunteer in an interview with “Tá na Hora”. It is worth remembering that the government of Rio Grande do Sul denied on social media recently, which is fining or preventing donations from arriving in the Rio Grande do Sul region.

Recently, the government of Rio Grande do Sul stated on social media that it was not “imposing obstacles” to receiving donations, denying information that had been circulating on social media in recent days: “No invoice for donations is required. Rescue support vehicles are not being fined. A license is not required to operate boats and jet skis in rescue operations. There is no inspection, by the State government, of lunch boxes made by volunteers. The money donated by the official Pix does not go to the government’s coffers”, the statement said.

G1, Globo’s news portal, also published a note describing the allegations as “fake news”. In the text, the website states that rumors that the government of Rio Grande do Sul was preventing the arrival of trucks with donations to victims due to lack of documentation would be “false”.
