In Renascer, a soap opera from the 90s by Benedito Ruy Barbosa that returned to Globo screens with the remake by Bruno Luperi, the character Dona Patroa takes on new directions starting this Monday (6). Played by Camila Morgado, she is married to Colonel Egídio (Vladimir Brichta) and is known in the first 90 chapters for being a religious woman and created to fulfill her role as a devout wife.

The character’s “transformation” begins from the moment she leaves Egídio’s house and begins to renounce the nickname Dona Patroa, given by him. Far from her husband’s controlling treatment, the woman seeks help from her daughter Sandra (Giullia Buscacio), who lives in Dona Jacutinga’s (Juliana Paes) old house.

During the reopening of the Jacutinga house as a place for parties and after being welcomed by Sandra, Dona Patroa allows herself to have fun and ends up getting drunk at forró. During this moment of freedom, the character played by Camila Morgado states that her name is, in fact, Iolanda Fernandez de Brito.

Yolanda’s new relationship

The revelation is witnessed by Rachid (Almir Sater), the Lebanese who manages the new Casa de Jacutinga with Sandra. The character was responsible for sewing the skin of José Inocêncio (Humberto Carrão/Marcos Palmeira) in the first phase of Renascer and has also revealed that he was married to Marianinha, sister of Maria Santa (Duda Santos).

After years of widowhood, Rachid never had a relationship with anyone again, but Iolanda catches the Lebanese’s attention in this first unexpected meeting during the forró at Jacutinga’s house. In the original version of the soap opera, Dona Patroa dances with Rachid and after the forró ends, she shares with Sandra what this experience was like:

— For the first time in my life I felt, Sandra, that I belonged to nobody. I was me. — he confesses.

In Renascer 2024, this romance will be developed throughout the soap opera and can continue until the last chapters of the plot.

In 1993, Dona Patroa, whose name is Iolanda Regina Monteiro, and Rachid assume a new relationship and at the end of the soap opera they leave Brazil. This ending could be repeated in 2024, if Bruno Luperi follows the original plot of Renascer.
