After 35 years using the same music, Rede Globo needed to change the vignette used in the Tela Quente film session, which has been shown every Monday since 1988. The reason for the change is a legal battle that lasted almost 20 years.
According to Folha de São Paulo, musical arranger Evaldo Santos, who worked at the station between 1988 and 2003, went to court against the company seeking recognition and compensation for the copyright of the work.
Responsible for the original arrangement, Santos obtained favorable votes in almost all instances by the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJ-RJ) and now the case is in the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) which has not yet made a judgment.
Even claiming that the arranger received the rights to the song through Ecad (Central Collection and Distribution Office), a disagreement between the parties meant that Rede Globo chose to change the program’s opening song and create a new original track.
