Synopsis of “Baby Reindeer”
The story of “Baby Reindeer” follows Donny Dunn (Richard Gadd), a comedian and bartender who meets Martha (Jessica Gunning).
The two begin to get involved, but the relationship becomes a suffocating obsession. Subsequently, this will impact and awaken traumas in both of their lives.

The real story behind the series
First of all, it is worth mentioning that in addition to playing the character Donny, Richard Gadd is also the creator of the series – therefore, what is reported there is a case that happened in his life. Still in 2015, when working in a cafe in London, Gadd answered the phone, offered tea and talked to a woman who, until then, didn’t know who she was.
Over the next three years, she began to appear to be a stalker, an expression that is used when one person chases another.
During this period, she showed up at Donny’s work incessantly, sent gifts and sent thousands of emails. In fact, she nicknamed him “Baby Reindeer” after a toy.

In an interview with The Guardian, an English news portal, Gadd revealed that he even reported the persecution to the police, but it was not taken very seriously. And, in the series, even though she was a figure that scared him, when recreating her in Martha he says he was careful to portray her as someone who also suffered, and not as a bad person.
It is worth mentioning that everything that happens in “Baby Reindeer” is inspired by a story that Richard Gadd gave in a theatrical show of his called “Monkey See, Monkey Do”.
The twist in “Baby Reindeer”
It is noticeable that Donny, the fictional version of Gadd, has a certain emotional conflict regarding Martha. Despite feeling uncomfortable, he accompanies her home and even takes the stalker to a cafe – a confusing relationship, to say the least. However, from the fourth episode everything becomes clear. This is because he returns to the past in a parallel reasoning.

In this story, Donny meets Darrien (Tom Goodman-Hill), a famous TV writer who promises to raise the comedian to fame. Darrien, however, not only doesn’t help him, but drugs the artist to the point that he is drugged to abuse him for the first time, in one of the most brutal sequences in fiction in recent times. Furthermore, the abuser’s coercion is so great that Donny is unable to get out of that situation.
