This Thursday (25), Florinda Meza, widow of Roberto Bolaños, shared a letter about the controversies surrounding the series “Chaves” and “Chapolin”. In the outburst, published on Instagram, Dona Florinda’s interpreter spoke about the will left by her husband, stated that she never opened a case against anyone and regretted that the highly successful attractions were taken offline due to bureaucratic issues.

Everyone knows that Roberto Gómez Bolaños is the love of my life“, began the actress. “When he made his will, I was at peace, because he decided what left him alone. In 2014, Roberto died in my arms. My mourning for his absence has been long and painful, I spent years isolated, recovering“, remembered.

She then said that the contract with Televisa for literary rights for the broadcasts of “Chaves” ended during the pandemic, in 2020, and that she was not invited to renegotiate. “I found out through the media that they had finally not reached an agreement and suspended the broadcast of the programs. Something exploded inside me, it was as if my Roberto rose from the grave and shouted: ‘Wake up! You have to defend my legacy’“, he wrote.

Florinda explained that she was appointed by Chaves’ interpreter as his representative for “protect your characters from misuse“. “And what worse use can be made of the legacy of a genius than burying it, freezing it for almost 4 years?“, she questioned, also stating that the artist was never interested in money. “He would not have allowed the series to go off the air during the pandemic. Taking away this joy from followers just when they needed it most was terrible“, he added.

The actress also revealed the reason for not getting involved in controversies, praised Bolaños’ personality and stated that, since her husband’s death, she has never entered into legal battles. “Preserving these good feelings is a mission for me, as it should be for the rest of the cast, which is why, as far as possible, I avoid responding to controversies and attacks, as I choose to evoke the good things we experienced together.“, he pointed out.

She denied that she had sued Roberto Gómez Fernández, Bolaños’ son. “I want to clarify that, to this day, I HAVE NOT SUE ANYONE, it is not my desire, and I hope I do not find myself needing to do so, for any reason. I never sought conflict with the children of the love of my life. Roberto’s last will requires me to intervene to protect his legacy, because he trusted me and so provided in his will. If they want, we can resolve this immediately; It is urgent that laughter returns to homes“, announced the actress.

Finally, Florinda stated that she will continue to defend her work, literary rights, her image and her private life with the actor. Furthermore, she sent hints about the new biographical series being produced by Max, “O Chespirito: Sem Querer Querendo”. “Any vision other than this will not be his biography, it will be another story, someone else’s imagination, full of fantasies to sell… but the character who bears the name ‘Roberto’ will not really be him. Let us honor Roberto Gómez Bolaños, ‘Chespirito’, and let us take care of the magic. OUR MAGIC, because his legacy of joy belongs to all the good people who follow him… and his shield IS A HEART“, he concluded. The letter was published in both Spanish and Portuguese. Check out:

Understand the case

Roberto Bolaños, who died in November 2014, was responsible for creating and playing Chaves and Chapolin, characters that have fans around the world to this day. The first episode of “Chaves” aired in February 1973. As mentioned by Florinda Meza, Televisa’s exhibition rights expired and the attractions were no longer shown not only by the Mexican broadcaster, but on all other channels that they also did the transmission.

SBT, which had presented the productions since 1984, also removed the episodes from the schedule. Throughout this battle between Televisa and Grupo Chespirito, led by Bolaños’ son, Roberto Gómez Fernández, who holds the copyright to the work, Meza publicly opposed the executive’s decisions.

Furthermore, the subject returned to the media after the announcement that they were producing a biographical series about Bolaños. According to TV Azteca, in March, Florinda filed a lawsuit, alleging that businesswoman Maca Rotter, former director of Grupo Televisa’s licensing division, did not ask her family for authorization to carry out the production. Now, finally, the artist has broken her silence and denied any legal action. Find out more here.
