Recently, Netflix won over the public with another production inspired by a true story. “Baby Rena” explores the true case of persecution and abuse of Richard Gadd, and reached the top of the list of most watched productions on streaming.

After the public investigates the identity of the characters in the plot, the The woman accused of stalking Gadd in real life spoke to the Daily Star, this Thursday (25), anonymously, claiming that she is the victim in the story. “I’m the victim here, not Richard Gadd“, she said. “I received death threats as a result of his series, despite the fact that many of the things he stated in the [atração] are simply not trues”, he fired.

One person sent me a message saying: ‘If I find you, I will kill you’. A guy in North Carolina said he and other people would chase me like I chased Gadd“, he reported. The woman added that the hate from the web has affected her sleep and she lives in fear. She also said she won’t stop speaking out, despite Gadd stating she doesn’t want people to find her because of concerns for her mental well-being.

The 58-year-old woman, who graduated in law from the University of Aberdeen, concluded: “I didn’t watch Baby Reindeer, but I saw a lot of things”. She further called the program a “gross intrusion” of her privacy and stated that she has not seen Gadd in 12 years.

In the plot, Gadd plays Donny Dunn, a comedian who is chased by a woman. Played by Jessica Gunning, the stalker is called Martha in the series, however, this is not her real name. Over the course of seven episodes, the obsession only grows and she nicknames him Baby Reindeer. The reason for the unusual nickname is only revealed at the end of production, after the man spends months trying to convince the police that Martha was threatening him.

In an interview with Radio Times, the actress revealed that “has purposely decided not to know much about the real person as it doesn’t help her much“. “I’m not imitating her. All I’m doing is playing this character, so I didn’t do any backstory other than what was in the scripts.“, he explained.

In the series, Gadd does not reveal the number of messages and other forms of contact from his stalker. However, the viewer is able to notice her mental state through the incessant attempts throughout the plot. Although he does not reveal the exact number in the attraction, the creator told Screen Rant that there were 41,071 emails, 350 hours of voice messages, 744 tweets, 46 Facebook messages and 106 pages of letters.

At the end of the adaptation, Martha is arrested and sentenced to nine months in prison. The protagonist, in turn, obtains a five-year restraining order against her. However, Gadd chose not to take legal action against her in real life and cited mental disorders. In an interview with The Times, he stated that this issue is “resolved“, adding that he had “mixed feelings about this“, then “I didn’t want to throw someone with that level of mental illness into prison“.

Currently, the series leads Netflix’s most watched list and will have a reinforced campaign for the Emmys. Watch the trailer:
