Square Enix expects extraordinary losses of 22.1 billion yen in “content abandonment losses” for the fiscal year ending March 2024, the company announced.

This term, in practice, means that games that have not yet been announced are being canceled internally within the company.

The Board of Directors voted to “review the Group’s approach to high definition (HD) game development with the intention of being more selective and focused in the allocation of development resources”. The losses are a result of this revised approach.

Today’s announcement is no surprise. Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu had already said that the company’s approach would be changed with a drastic overhaul of its development structure with the aim of improving the quality of its titles.

With the cancellation of games we don’t know what they are, fans are worried about the status of Dragon Quest XII. However, following Akira Toriyama’s passing, Square Enix https://twitter.com/Genki_JPN/status/1785256800373383491.
