According to information released by the portal ‘O Globo’, Globo’s digital newspaper, the Proteste Consumers Association carried out a safety test on a brand of wheat flour. Thus, an analysis based on Anvisa regulations revealed fragments of insects and rat hair in the Sol brand flour.

J.Macêdo, manufacturer of the Sol brand, has more than 83 years of history, and is one of the largest and most respected companies in the sector in Brazil. It is the second largest pasta company, present in the homes of millions of Brazilians. However, in 2017, the company found itself in a complicated situation involving the quality of its product.

Although the number of insects is within the law determined by regulations, rodent hair is not allowed in these products.

To give you an idea, Anvisa allows a small amount of mouse hair in some foods. Like sauces and ketchup, but in flour this rule does not apply. At the time, Proteste demanded that the product that did not comply with the standard be removed from the market and requested a review of Anvisa Resolution 14.
