Calibration tool helps resolve “drift” issue on DualSense and DualShock 4

User stopmrdomino, from ResetEra, reported about a tool he developed to try to alleviate the problem that plagues many controls today: drift.

When you start to notice that your DualSense analog sticks are moving strangely, activating alone or without precision, this means that the reading of the lever movements is not correct. Whether due to dirt or mechanical failures, this causes drift which, depending on the type of game, makes gaming a real catastrophe.

Stopmrdomino coded and provided a tool for Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Opera, Vivaldi and Microsoft Edge) that can recalibrate the center of the analog sticks and the range, thus making a more accurate reading and compensating for the problems encountered.

The tool can be accessed through this link and used easily by following the steps provided. In summary, you need to note a few things:

  • Connect via USB cable to a PC and ensure the battery is charged.
  • Not having installed or opened the Steam (probably because BigPicture mode interferes with operation).
  • Use the Calibrate Stick Center and follow the steps directing the analog sticks to the directions provided and confirm.
  • Use the Calibrate Stick Range (temporary if you wanted to test before and permanent to be effective when using the DS4 or DualSense on your later console) following the steps and confirming.
  • If any function has become abnormal or different, use the Reset Controller to return to default.
  • Only disconnect the USB cable after all steps. If you do this during the process, it may render the control unusable!

In our tests with a DualShock 4, the steps were simple, showing changes to the abnormal patterns that the controller presented before.

It is worth remembering that serious mechanical problems should not be resolved by recalibration and will depend on activating the warranty, if it is still valid, or changing the analogues.
