Nintendo files patent for improved Dock

-

Nintendo has investigated ways to improve the dock that comes with each Nintendo Switch Matrix and OLED unit to implement small improvements that may be of particular importance to the convenience of many players.

On April 2, 2024, thank you NintendoLife, the Japanese company submitted a patent for registration showing an improved version of the current dock model. This new dock features a rotating panel in its center, in which you will find the HDMI and USB ports to insert all the cables necessary to connect the console to the TV and power supply.

The current dock, existing since 2017, includes HDMI and USB ports fixed on one side, which may result in minor inconveniences when connecting cables, taking into account the direction of the power socket or TV in relation to the position of the dock. This patent shows an improved version of the dock in which you can rotate the HDMI and USB ports to the most convenient side for placing your equipment.

It’s a small improvement, especially for gamers’ convenience, but it leaves us wondering whether Nintendo will update the dock to the current model or if it’s already thinking about its console’s successor, the Nintendo Switch 2.
