In search of returning to the path of victories, Derrick Lewis prepares for duel against Rodrigo Zé Colmeia this Saturday (11). A favorite at the bookmakers, the North American avoids underestimating his rival’s abilities, but guarantees he already has the ideal name to challenge if he triumphs at UFC Saint Louis. Dissatisfied with the setback, the athlete set a target Jailton Malhadinho.

“I have my eye on a rematch against (Jailton) Almeida. After I get through this fight, without belittling my opponent, I would like to have this fight against Almeida again. This time in the United States. I don’t want to go back to Brazil”, declared Lewis in an interview on Media Day.

In addition to expressing his desire for a rematch, Derrick revealed that he had had problems before facing Malhadinho and stated that his performance suffered against the Brazilian

“I was fit for that fight. I blew out both my shoulders two weeks before the fight. I accepted the fight, signed the contract and days later I injured myself doing stupid jiu-jitsu training. So I couldn’t perform well and throw a punch. The week of the fight I had an infection in both ears at the same time and it took me three weeks to get better after the fight”, he concluded.

Protagonist of UFC Saint Louis, Lewis hopes to avoid a delicate moment in his career. Currently ranked 12th in the heavyweight rankings (up to 120.2kg), the athlete has only one victory in his last five fights. The confrontation against Zé Colmeia takes place this Saturday (11).
