With financial difficulties, Corinthians is late in paying image rights to players and coach António Oliveira, in addition to gloves for contract signing and commissions to businesspeople.
Members of the Corinthians board confirmed the delay to Ge, but they considered that the image rights expired on the 30th – that is, the delay would only be eight days. Sources interviewed by the report, however, claim that there is at least two months open.
The club explains that there are cases of invoices issued incorrectly, which would have prevented payment. The delay was initially reported by “Meu Timão”.
Image rights make up part of players’ remuneration. The percentage in relation to the total received monthly varies from athlete to athlete. Salaries paid in the portfolio are up to date.
In March, upon receiving an advance for the sale of Moscardo, Corinthians paid around R$20 million in image rights with athletes from the current squad.
The board understands that, with this gesture and constant dialogue with the group, it has acquired the respect of the players. Still, the black and white technical committee is uncomfortable with the situation and tries to prevent delays from affecting the team’s performance.
The latest balance sheet released by the club, for January this year, shows a debt of R$121.6 million in image rights.
Regarding debts with businesspeople, Corinthians is working to pay them off, but has other priorities ahead – such as payments to athletes. Recently, the club was prosecuted for million-dollar debts owed to agents André Cury and Carlos Leite.
