Cruzeiro’s 3-0 victory over Alianza, this Tuesday (7/5), at Armando Maestre Pavajeau Stadium, in Valledupar, Colombia, in the fourth round of Group B of the Copa Sudamericana, began to be built with the help of Lucas Silva. Scorer of the first celestial goal, the midfielder revealed that the move was rehearsed by coach Fernando Seabra during training.

The Raposa captain found the net in the 41st minute of the first half, after a good play by Matheus Pereira. The number 10 received a free kick on the left and crossed the ball into the middle of the area. The ball passed through all Alianza players until it found Lucas Silva at the second post. He only had the job of supporting the round for the goal.

According to the midfielder, the infiltration behind the defense was a request from Seabra. He revealed that the coach has asked for greater participation from marking midfielders in the offensive phase.

“Seabra likes midfielders, he usually calls midfielders, defensive and offensive midfielders, to have freedom in midfield to move. Furthermore, it helps the offensive sector to enter the area. This is something we have been working on a lot”, he began.

After the midfielder’s goal, Cruzeiro scored twice more. Arthur Gomes increased the advantage just 4 minutes into the second half, while Rafael Elias gave the final score to the game with the last play.

Lucas Silva’s goal play was rehearsed

Lucas also stated that he was already expecting Matheus Pereira’s cross at the second post. The move was rehearsed by Seabra during training at Toca da Raposa 2, in Belo Horizonte, before the match for the international tournament.

“We had more training time and we had time to plan the plays better, so much so that the first goal came like this, from a play worked on with Matheus Pereira. I knew the ball was going to be crossed into the opponent’s area and I was able to score. I was very happy with the goal, as it gives me a lot of confidence,” he concluded.

With the goal, Lucas Silva equaled his highest scoring seasons with the Cruzeiro shirt. On April 14, the midfielder also scored in the 3-1 victory over Botafogo, in the first round of the Brazilian Championship.

The only times the number 16 had scored two goals in the same year for Raposa was in 2013 and 2014.

Cruzeiro’s next game

Cruzeiro will return to the field next Sunday (12/5), at 4pm, to face Atlético-GO. The teams will face each other at Antônio Accioly, in Goiânia, for the sixth round of the Brasileirão.
