Peter Scooby, Lucas Chumbo and other giant wave surfers ended the third day of searching for flood victims in Rio Grande do Sul (RS). Just like on the first day, this Wednesday (8), the team focused on Eldorado do Sul, a city that is almost entirely submerged.

The mission ended a little early because of the storm predicted to hit the state. In his profile, surfer Ian Cosenza commented that, therefore, they were instructed to interrupt today’s work.

“Brief report from the last family man to be rescued, before the storm forced us to leave the affected area”, wrote Ian, who showed the video of the rescue.

“Thanks! You are a blessing, you make a difference in the country. Gratitude”, says the resident rescued by him. “We do what we felt had to be done. In a little while you’ll be there safely, your family is fine, that’s what’s important”, comments the surfer.

On social media, Lucas Chumbo also spoke about the end of the work. “Ending another day of rescue here. This team that starts in the morning and leaves in the afternoon. Late afternoon today with a lot of rain, wind, but thank God it worked. God willing, we will be able to keep everyone safe and sound and this rain won’t be so heavy,” he said.

Scooby and giant wave surfers have been in Eldorado do Sul since Monday (6), the day they started carrying out rescues. On the first day, the group said the place looked like a “horror movie” and, in the second, rescued children, adults and animals in a school. Surfers have already carried out hundreds of rescues and have the help of authorities, such as the Civil Police and Fire Department.

100 deaths

Data from the Civil Defense of RS indicate that the number of deaths has now reached 100. Furthermore, 128 people are missing, 372 injured, 66,761 in shelters and 163,720 displaced. In total, there are 417 municipalities affected and 1,456,820 people affected by the floods.
