Willing to take new steps in his MMA career, Sean O’Malley surprised by opening the doors to unprecedented change in the UFC. Amidst the exchange of barbs with Conor McGregor, the North American declared his willingness to venture into the lightweight category (up to 70.3kg) to face the former double Ultimate champion. In ‘Sugar’s’ opinion, it would be ‘legendary’.
“Conor is one of the only guys I would fight that I say, ‘that son of a bitch is big.’ I would only fight him in the lightweight category. Firstly, it would be a big payout. Second, he’s Conor. That would be legendary. He’s one of the few guys I would fight outside of my weight class,” said Sean in an interview with Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk.
By continuing his speech, the bantamweight champion demonstrated his awareness that he could go to featherweight and face athletes of great caliber, but that he prefers to continue in his lane.
“I’m very realistic when talking about these big guys. I’m like, ‘OK, I’m a bantamweight. I’ll stay in my lane and do my thing. I could go to featherweight. Could fight with Alexander VolkanovskiHolloway, Topuria, but I keep to myself”, he concluded.
