“I kind of feel like some of the things he says, he might not respect me. But I’m going to put my hands on this guy. I’m going to hurt him. I haven’t followed much of anything, but when I was in the gym, Mike Brown told me said, ‘I think this guy might be underestimating your jiu-jitsu and how dangerous you are’. I think he was referring to an interview with Makhachev saying ‘this is an easy fight for me’. on social media with him saying that. I don’t know, maybe he goes to every fight like that, but I can beat any lightweight in the world. I really believe that. beat him up,” he said. The Diamond in an interview with MMA Fighting.

Former interim champion, Poirier had two opportunities to be linear champion. In both cases, he was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles do Bronx, respectively. Now, the American sees UFC 302 as the last chance of his life to become linear lightweight champion.

“I don’t think I’ll be around for another chance. That said, I’m not putting pressure on myself that I can’t handle it. It is what it is. I’m a realist. I try to be optimistic, but I understand what happens. I’m 35 years old, the division needs to move at some point, but I’m trying to finalize it,” he said.

“The reason I put on a pair of gloves at 17 was to say I’m the best in the world, and on June 1st I intend to do just that,” he concluded.
