Cruzeiro achieved its first victory in Conmebol Sul-Americana and remained alive in the fight for a direct place in the round of 16 of the competition. With the triumph over Alianza, Raposa reached six points and rose, albeit momentarily, to second place in Group B.

The team now has one point less than leaders Universidad Catolica, from Ecuador, who host Union La Calera (four points), on Thursday. The Fox hopes that the leader will stumble so that he can once again depend on his own strength.

With Catolica drawing or losing Thursday’s game, Cruzeiro will depend on victories at Mineirão to guarantee first place. The Minas Gerais team plays against the Ecuadorians, being able to surpass them in direct confrontation, and against La Calera in the last two rounds.

Cruzeiro can finish the fourth round of Group B without gaining position. To remain in second place, Cruzeiro needs to hope for a draw or defeat for Unión La Calera. Thus, it would not be overtaken by the Chileans who would have four points (in case of defeat) or five (in case of a draw).
