Polish Iga Swiatek, champion of Madrid, held a press conference this Tuesday in Rome where she will go in search of her third title to repeat the feats of 2021 and 2022.

She was asked if playing on clay is being more difficult and commented on the injuries they had in the Spanish tournament, especially in the men’s group. The tennis player also took the opportunity to criticize the mandatory participation in events that is given to the main players on the circuit.

“I think that in general today everything is more challenging because we play faster. On the other hand, however, we are always very focused on improving physically, it is difficult to win matches. So, personally, it is difficult for me to make a comparison between playing on a hard court and playing on clay at the ATP level. I’m not the type of expert who can analyze the reasons behind these injuries. Everything that happened during this period could also just be a coincidence. At the women’s and men’s level, it is becoming more and more demanding, both in terms of the duration of the games and the duration of the tournaments and the rules of having to play a certain number of tournaments. Let’s see what happens in the future. , because sometimes you are forced to miss tournaments that are important to you, just to be ready for the next one,” said the Pole.
