Botafogo is going through decisive weeks in the Conmebol Libertadores, starting with the fourth round, in which they play this Wednesday, at 9:30 pm, at the Nilton Santos Stadium, against LDU. Globo broadcasts the match live.

GE Botafogo debates replacements for Artur Jorge in defeat

Artur Jorge’s team is currently bottom of Group D, with just three points. However, they can end the round at the top of the group. For this, the focus starts this Tuesday, before even entering the field.

Universitario (PER) hosts Junior Barranquilla (COL) at 11pm at the National Stadium in Lima. The ideal scenario for Glorioso is a goalless draw between the two teams. With this, Junior would remain at the top, with six points and a balance of 2, and the Peruvians would be in second place, with five.

In this eventual scenario, Alvinegro would enter the field, on Wednesday, needing a victory by three goals difference over LDU to jump from 4th to 1st position in the group and go to the last rounds depending only on themselves to qualify for the octaves.

If this combination, Botafogo could even guarantee a place in the next phase one round in advance. To do so, they would need to beat Universitário in Peru and Junior Barranquilla would need to defeat LDU, in Ecuador.. Both would have 9 points, and third place would be Universitario, with 5.

Botafogo fans make a mosaic before the match against Universitario, in the Libertadores

The match against LDU is treated as decisive because it will have a major impact on the club’s future in the Libertadores and also because it will be the last in Rio de Janeiro. A stumble would greatly complicate Botafogo’s life, but it would not be definitive.

In case of a tie with LDU, the worst case scenario would be a victory for Universitario this Tuesday. Second place would be two points ahead. It is worth noting that Botafogo’s last two games will be away from home.

A defeat, however, would be practically irreversible. In the best case scenario, with a draw this Tuesday, the distance to second place would be three points. Botafogo would have to win the last two rounds away from home and hope for LDU to defeat Barranquilla in Quito.
