FEAC celebrates achievements in sport and art. Highlights include medals at the Senior Games and victories in handball and basketball. Check out the details of the weekend’s busy competitions
The movement for teams and athletes, supported by the City Hall, through FEAC (Fundação Esporte, Arte e Cultura) was intense this weekend, with participation in various competitions, modalities and some highlights.
Among them, the presence in the 26th edition of the Best Age Games (JOMIS), of the 5th Sports Region, held in Bebedouro, with 52 cities, where Franca won four gold medals, in Ballroom Dancing (Meire & Maximiliano); Checkers (Luiz Aurélio Fortunato) and in women’s and men’s volleyball (respectively 70 and 60+).
Chess, Table Tennis and Choreography secured the silver medal, totaling 100 points overall for the city. These modalities are qualified for the state stage, which will bring together the top two placed in the eight regional stages, which are scheduled to take place in the last fortnight of June, in Itatiba. The two volleyball teams made the finals on Sunday, the women’s 70+ team beat Jaboticabal 2-0, while the men’s 60+ team beat Bebedouro, last year’s champion, 2-0. The women’s 60+ team secured third place by winning Jaboticabal 2-0. Swimming also took two second places, in the men’s and women’s backstroke and front crawl.
For the president of FEAC, Mateus Caetano, it was a participation that met expectations and showed the seriousness of the work done with the older public, as well as the evolution of the teams. He thanked all the athletes and technical committees for their dedication and commitment. Of the 14 modalities, with the results obtained, Franca guaranteed participation in eight of them.
Handball in São Caetano
Playing in São Caetano, on Saturday, against the host team, the FEAC/Franca Under-16 Handball team won by a score of 36 to 25. The athlete Joshua was chosen as the highlight of the game. Returning to the court on Sunday, against the Olympic Center team, Franca lost 25 to 15. They will return to the court next Saturday, the 11th, at the ‘Amauri Destro’ gym, at Poliesportivo, against the Hércules de Guarulhos-B team.
Women’s basketball
For the Basketball Centenary Cup, also on Saturday, at the ‘Pedrocão’ gym, the Under-20 and Under-18 teams had two commitments, hosting Sesi Araraquara. In the first game, for the Under-20s, the Francans won 46 to 41, while in the Under-18s, Araraquara won 55 to 41.
Under-21 Volleyball
Also at the weekend, playing at the ‘Demétrio Soares’ gymnasium, in Champagnat, the FEAC/Franca Under-21 men’s volleyball team, participating in the APV (Associação Pró-Voleibol) Juvenil, beat Sertãozinho by 3 sets to 1. Remembering that the opponent was champion of the 2023 season.
Men’s basketball
Participating in the Copa Revelar, played in Ribeirão Preto, FEAC men’s basketball, in the Under-14 and 15 categories, won one and lost the other game to R-13 Basquete. In the first, U14, the defeat was 42 to 55 and in the second, U15, victory by 82 to 55, with emphasis in this category on the pivot Sílvio Barros, scorer with 16 points and 12 rebounds
Artistic Gymnastics
With Categories A and B, Franca was present in Araraquara, competing with the gymnastics teams for the 12th State Artistic Gymnastics Cup. The competition featured 9 teams in Category B and 11 in Category A, whose presentations took place in the ‘Gigantão’ gymnasium (Castelo Branco).
In Category A, Kauê Lourenço obtained gold on the bar, silver in the individual all-around and solo, fourth place in the vault and sixth in the parallel. Augusto Milhim Ferreira came in sixth place in the vault, eighth overall and second place as a team.
In Category B, Théo Lucas Medeiros Marçal came in fifth solo, in parallel and overall individual. Antônio Peixoto del Poente placed fifth on the bar, sixth on the parallel and seventh in the individual all-around. Arthur Lorenzo Aguiar Dias placed sixth on the floor and tenth in the individual all-around.
