Ferrari did not win its second victory of the year in Miami, but Red Bull and Max Verstappen suffered their second defeat of the 2024 Formula 1 season, after six races. Lando Norris won with McLaren last weekend, which left Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur optimistic. For the Frenchman, it is yet another confirmation that the RB20 can be surpassed.

Charles Leclerc finished third and Carlos Sainz fourth, which became P5 after a penalty. The fight for the championship has been fierce between the Italian team and McLaren. Can these two teams attack Red Bull together? Is Miami a preview of what we can expect for the rest of the year?

“Honestly, I think Red Bull is still ahead. Max probably could have won without the safety car mess,” said Vasseur. The fact that Red Bull was the strongest in Sprint qualifying and the GP qualifying session also means something, according to the Frenchman. “That means I don’t want to jump to any conclusions. But their pole position shows they still have a small advantage.”

Vasseur continued: “What is true is that compared to a year ago, when we managed to do a good job and put everything to work, we are there. That means we are putting pressure on them.”

While last year Red Bull seemed unbeatable, in 2024 the situation is different. “They need to be a little more aggressive with the strategy. They are no longer in the comfort zone of last year, when it didn’t matter what happened, as soon after the second lap, they were in the lead and opening up an advantage. And I think that changed the course of the race. It’s an opportunity for us, because if we take one more small step, I think we will really be in a position to fight with them every weekend”, concluded Vasseur.
