London, England) – Finalists of the Masters 1000 in Madrid, champion Andrey Rublev and runner-up Félix Auger-Aliassime saw their great performance in the Spanish competition earn them a good rise in the rankings. The Russian recovered two positions and is now number 6 in the world, while the Canadian returned to the top 20 after gaining 15 places.

Aliassime reached 20th position in the ATP list released this Monday. Former number 6 in the world, the Canadian had not appeared in the top 20 for just over six months. He had left this ranking range in the first week of November and since then has struggled to recover, with his worst mark being 36th.

Within the top 10, the only change that happened was precisely that of Rublev, surpassing the Norwegian Casper Ruud, who fell to 7th, and the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, who went to 8th place. Interestingly, the two were excited after facing each other in the finals of the ATP 500 in Barcelona and the Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo.

No changes to the top 5

The ATP top 5 remained intact, with Serbian Novak Djokovic at the top, followed by Italian Jannik Sinner (2nd), Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (3rd), Russian Daniil Medvedev (4th) and German Alexander Zverev (5th).

The main difference was in each person’s score. Without competing, Djokovic saw Sinner score 200 points and get a little closer, but as the Italian will not play in Rome, the Serbian’s leadership is assured until the start of Roland Garros. On the other hand, Alcaraz lost ground, remained and is increasingly further away, now 1,515 points behind the vice-leader.

Champion last year in Madrid, the young Spaniard lost 800 points and saw the Russian Daniil Medvedev close, with a difference of less than 200 points. Zverev remains firmly in the top 5, but the huge gap he had for Rublev was greatly reduced by the Russian’s title, who is now less than 700 points behind the German.
