Caio Bonfim takes silver at Korzeniowski Warsaw, in Poland

There are Brazilians shining in Poland! Candango Caio Bonfim won the silver medal in the race walking 20km from Korzeniowski Warsaw. The competition is part of the gold level of the World Tour of the sport, the main level on the international scene. Further down, Lucas Mazzo completed the course in 29th place overall.

Caio finished the race in a total time of 1h19min17s, while Lucas finished in 1h28min49s. Last month, Bonfim had already won the bronze medal in the Podebrady Walking, third stage of the World Tour that took place in the Czech Republic. In Poland, the great champion of the men’s race was the Chinese Haifeng Qian, with 1h19min05s, and the Japanese Toshikazu Yamanishi was in third place. Among women, Hong Liu (China), Jemima Montag (Australia) and Qieyang Shijie (China) formed the podium.

Qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the individual competition, Caio Bonfim guaranteed another place for Brazil at the end of April. Together with Viviane Lyra, they finished fifth in the mixed relay race at the World Athletic Walking Championships and qualified the country to compete in the event in the French capital. Viviane will also compete in the women’s group at the Olympics, as will Pernambuco’s Érica Sena.
