Daniel Ricciardo once again showed what he is capable of in Formula 1. After taking fourth place in the Sprint race in Miami, the RB Australian celebrated the result as a ‘good reminder for people’.
Ricciardo took advantage of Sergio Perez’s frustrated attempt to overtake Charles Leclerc at the start, to take third position at turn 1. With the entry of the safety car, the fight for the podium was postponed.
Despite losing the position to Perez at the restart, Ricciardo managed to hold off Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and secure his first points in the 2024 season. After a complicated start to the championship, the Australian confessed his satisfaction at being in contention at the front again.
“Fighting on the wing is a much better feeling. Seeing a Ferrari in the rear view mirror makes you excited: ‘Challenge accepted, let’s see what we’re capable of’. Every lap that I managed to hold off Carlos, I mentally patted myself on the back. Suddenly, we were getting to the end and I thought, ‘Damn, maybe we can actually do this,’” he added.
Despite the high temperature of the track in Miami, which reached 45 degrees, Ricciardo revealed that he had to attack as much as possible to contain Sainz.
“I gave everything I had, without saving tires, nothing, I just went for it. I knew that’s what I needed to hold the position, so it’s a good feeling. The team deserves it, I think we all deserve it. We went through a period… I can’t curse, but we went through a difficult period to get here. So it’s also good to remind some people of what I’m capable of”, concluded the Australian driver.
