Luana Silva and Samuel Pupo finished runner-up in the Challenger stage in Gold Coast, Australia. The competition is part of the scoring for surfers to fight for a place in the WSL elite in 2025. Luana and Samuel competed in the WSL in the first months of 2024, but did not make the cut to continue in the competition, and need to fight for points to return to the elite next year.
Luana beat Australian Sally Fitzgibbons 14.17 to 11.90 in the semifinal. In the decision, she lost to Canadian Erin Brooks by 13.90 to 12.57. Samuel Pupo, on the other hand, defeated Australian George Pittar in the semifinals by 16.10 to 14, earning a score of 9.73. In the decision, however, he lost to Australian Mikey McDonagh by 15.43 to 12.93.
The competition marked João Chianca’s return to international competitions after a serious accident at the end of last year. Chumbinho, as he is known, reached the quarterfinals, but was eliminated by Barbadian Josh Burke 15.83 to 11.16.
