Williams’ performance in the Sprint classification of the Formula 1 Miami GP was very poor. Logan Sargeant took P19 and Alex Albon P20 for the starting grid of Saturday’s Sprint race.

Sven Smeets, team sporting director: “Obviously, we are very disappointed with the result in the Sprint classification. We made a series of setup changes between FP1 and qualifying, but unfortunately they didn’t pay off. We will use the morning Sprint race to gather valuable information so that we can improve the entire package for GP qualifying and the GP itself on Sunday,” he concluded.

Albon: “We tend to have a little bit of difficulty in Sprint qualifying sessions when we use harder tire compounds. We also changed a lot between FP1 and the session, and unfortunately, the bet didn’t pay off. The things we changed were in the right direction, including some aerodynamic parts, but they weren’t exactly what we expected, and in the end, we overcommitted. We will wait until the Sprint race, then change the car setup and hopefully that will improve things,” he added.

Sargeant: “We had a good pace, with a lot of potential, but I had a lot of pressure in sector 1 that ended any chance of progress. Unfortunately, in Sprint classification you only get one set of tires. We’ll see how the Sprint race goes tomorrow,” he concluded.
