In an unexpected move that shook the structures of the UFCthe heavyweight champion (up to 120.2kg.) Jon Jones surprised everyone this Thursday afternoon (2) by using his account on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to question his fans about the next step in his career. The big news: the name of Alex Poatancurrent light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg), emerged as one of the main candidates to be the North American’s next challenger.

The mention of Poatan, who had already expressed interest in moving up a category, took everyone by surprise. After all, the relationship between the two athletes has always been considered friendly, without any indication of rivalry or desire to face each other inside the octagon.

“Who would you like me to fight more, Alex or Tom?” asked Jones in his post, placing Poatan alongside Tom Aspinallowner of the interim heavyweight belt, as the two options for his next fight.

Jon Jones vs Alex Poatan?

The choice of Poatan intrigues experts and fans for several reasons. Firstly, the difference in category between the two fighters, with Poatan in light heavyweight and Jones reigning in the top division, raises questions about how the fight would take place.

Furthermore, the absence of Stipe Miocicformer heavyweight champion and named as the main favorite to be Jones’ next opponent, also draws attention.

With a record of 27 wins and just one loss, Jones established himself as one of the biggest names in MMA history. His return to the octagons is scheduled for the second half of this year, and expectations surrounding who his next opponent will be are huge.
