Porto Alegre (RS) – Wednesday was special for 15-year-old Luis Augusto Miguel from Goiás, who achieved his first victory as a professional tennis player. Invited to the Brasil Tennis Open, a challenger tournament played at Associação Leopoldina Juvenil, in Porto Alegre, Guto advanced in the doubles bracket, alongside Karue Sell from Santa Catarina.
In a game with three Brazilians on the court, Guto and Sell beat Pedro Boscardin, also from Santa Catarina, and Ecuadorian Alvaro Guillen Meza by 6/3 and 6/4. They will face in the quarterfinals the Dominican Roberto Cid and the Japanese Kaichi Uchida, executioners of the Gauchos Guilherme Clezar and Fabrício Neis by 6/3 and 6/2.
The match was also marked by an incredible point scored by Guto Miguel, who hit a grand-willy, which was widely celebrated. Partner Sell, who also produces video content about tennis on social media, even pointed at the camera!
Another Brazilian pair in the quarterfinals is Mateus Alves and Daniel Dutra da Silva. Top seeds, they beat the Japanese Seita Watanabe and Takeru Yuzuki 7/6 (7-2), 6/7 (2-7) and 10-2. The next rivals will be the Frenchman Calvin Hemery and the Tunisian Aziz Ouakaa, executioners of Pedro Sakamoto and Wilson Leite by 7/6 (12-10) and 6/3
Round with three Brazilian victories in Colombia
Three Brazilians debuted with victory at the ITF M25 in Anapoima, on clay courts in Colombia. Seed 6, Mateo Reyes beat host Frazier Rengifo 4/6, 6/2 and 6/3. He faces Colombian Alejandro Hoyos. Vitor Leal beat Japanese Kosuke Ogura 7/5 and 6/2. His next rival is Japan’s Leo Vithoontien. Joaquim Almeida, who came from quali, was leading against the Dutch Thijmen Loof by 4/6, 6/0 and 2/0 when his rival retired. He plays in the round of 16 against Zimbabwean Benjamin Lock, seed 2.
Paulo Saraiva wins his first in Monastir
Paulo Saraiva from Brasilia made his debut with victory at the ITF M15 in Monastir, on hard courts in Tunisia. He beat Russian Daniil Piatrouski 7/6 (7-2) 6/2. His next rival will be the Japanese Jumpei Yamasaki. Saraiva is also in the doubles quarterfinals alongside Italian-Brazilian Élio Lago, a player born in Ceará, but who currently defends the European country on the circuit. The opponents will be the Italians Omar Brigida and Alessandro Coccioli.
At the ITF M25 in Xalapa, Mexico, Lorenzo Esquici from Mato Grosso lost in his debut to Australian Oliver Anderson by 6/1, 6/7 (7-9) and 6/2. At the ITF M15 in Antalya, Jefferson Wendler was beaten by the Dutchman Mees Rottgering by 7/5 and 6/2.
