América-RN 1 x 2 Corinthians | Best moments | 3rd phase | Brazil Cup 2024

Holder because of the preservation of Cássio, who admitted to suffering from the load of criticism received at the club, the 25-year-old goalkeeper consolidated his position with decisive saves in an irregular performance by Corinthians in Natal.

Facing an opponent from Series D who had an unbeaten record of 16 games, Corinthians suffered more than they should have defensively. Luckily for Timão, Carlos Miguel enjoyed a high-level night, which allowed the team to build a comeback victory with goals from Breno Bidon and Cacá.

Even with fundamental absences such as Rodrigo Garro, Gustavo Henrique, Maycon (who operated this Wednesday) and Yuri Alberto, Timão could deliver more and suffer less.

The collective level of the team in the initial stage fits into a popular philosophy in football: when the goalkeeper stands out, something is collectively wrong.

It was in this context that Carlos Miguel appeared with a huge participation in the first 45 minutes of the match at Arena das Dunas. Badly defensively, the team was only made difficult by the individual performance of the number 22.

With slow recovery and a lot of space at the edge of the area, remembering the worst moments of the season, the black and white team gave up a higher than acceptable number of chances to América-RN. That’s how the home team opened the scoring.

Marcos Ytalo received it with enormous freedom, without any type of marking, and started until he risked a shot from distance in the 12th minute. The ball deflected off Norberto in the middle of the path and completely deceived the goalkeeper. Only the intervention in the ball’s trajectory made Carlos Miguel overcome.

The goalkeeper ended up with at least four great saves, responsible for preventing the home team from finishing the first half of the duel with an advantage on the scoreboard. After that, the team recovered and managed to enter the confrontation.

The draw came in the team’s greatest virtue in 2024: Wesley. In a great individual play in the 29th minute, the striker took the ball to the baseline and provided a great assist for Breno Bidon to score his first goal as a professional.

The warning given in the final minutes with Carlos Miguel’s three important saves had no effect on the team led by assistant Bruno Lazaroni (António Oliveira was suspended). The post appeared as a savior just seven minutes into the final stage, in a well-rehearsed play by América-RN finished by Wenderson.

This scare, yes, made Corinthians work better on ball possession and impose technical quality for a few minutes. So much so that, by occupying more of the offensive sector and moving América-RN away from their own field, Timão reached the turnaround with defender Cacá, in the 17th minute, taking advantage of Matheus Bidu’s corner cross.

The turnaround had a negative effect on the team’s collective behavior.

The work of technical imposition gave way to deconcentration, and América-RN even found the net in a move generated after a childish foul by Wesley during recovery work. Matheus Ferreira’s accurate header, however, was canceled by VAR.

It took another scare for Corinthians to get back into the match. The objective until the end of the match was to work the ball and slow down América, who even attempted pressure, but without the impetus shown in the first stage.

Carlos Miguel needed to work less, and Timão left Natal with an important result in the fight for a place in the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil.
