Cuiabá finally managed to hire its new Portuguese coach. On Wednesday night, Dourado announced the arrival of Armando Gonçalves Teixeira, known as Petit.

Cristiano Dresch, club president, traveled to Portugal at the beginning of the week to bring in a new coach. Álvaro Pacheco, from Vitória de Guimarães, was the first option, but he rejected it.

Afterwards, João Pedro Sousa, ex-Famalicão, was the focus of the moment, and the agreement was well underway. But in the end, Petit is the one who returns to Mato Grosso with Dresch.

Born in Strasbourg, France, the son of Portuguese immigrants, Petit went to his parents’ homeland before he was three years old. There, he had a career as a player and became an idol at Benfica. He played two World Cups and two European Championships for the Portuguese national team.

He hung up his boots at Boavista in 2013, already sharing the role of coach. It was there that he did his last job: he returned to Bessa in 2021 and stayed until the end of last year. He also passed through Tondela, Moreirense, Paços de Ferreira, Marítimo and B SAD.

Cuiabá will be Petit’s first job as a coach away from Portugal. The Franco-Portuguese native signed a contract until the end of 2025, and brings with him four assistants: Tiago Morence Pinto, Mario Jorge Faria Nunes, Nuno Miguel Gaspar Pereira and Germano Antônio Reis Pires.
