Frenchman Alain Prost, who rivaled Ayrton Senna on the tracks of Formula 1paid homage to the Brazilian on this May 1st, which marks 30 years since the pilot’s death.

“It would have been nice to laugh together again today,” he wrote on social media.

Their paths crossed in motorsport. They were teammates at McLaren from 1988 onwards, when Senna, then a revelation in the category, joined the Frenchman, who was a two-time world champion.

Shortly after, they began to compete for leadership in the team. In the second year, Senna broke an ‘agreement’ not to overtake his teammate on the first lap and the rivalry broke out.

Prost went to Ferrari in 1990. The two had famous crashes in two Japanese GPs. The first, still in 1989, was caused by the Frenchman, and favored him. The second, in 1990, was provoked by Senna and favored the Brazilian.

In 1993, at the Australian GP, there was a public reconciliation: Senna won the race and shared the top spot with Prost, even raising the Frenchman’s arm.

The following year, when Senna died, Prost was present at the wake and was one of the people who carried the idol’s coffin.
