In the women’s category, Michaela Fregonese took the award, also for what she did at Barrinha. Last year, the site had a wall of around seven meters.

Marcos saved his words and simply thanked: “I’m just going to say thank you very much to everyone.” Michaela raised the women’s flag, reinforcing the importance of female presence in surfing competitions in Brazil and around the world.

“I’m a big fan of women’s surfing and I’m happy that every year it’s getting harder to win. We’re starting this story and that’s also very incredible, so I’m rooting for that, for the women’s category, for wave surfing big women,” he said.

João Paiva was the winner of the award in the Biggest Wave of the Year category. Already one of the most anticipated moments of the award, the Best Cow category was won by surfer Will Santana. The fearless athlete faced a giant wave also in Barrinha, in Saquarema, and had his fall recorded.

And Dudu Pedra and Ivana Brandão were the champions in the Best Onda Bodyboard categories for men and women. They surfed in Itacoatiara, Niterói. The award for Best Bodysurf Wave went to Kalani Latanzi, also on Rio de Janeiro beach.
